Originally constituted on July 18th 1917 in the Virginia National Guard as Headquarters, 54th Field Artillery Brigade, and assigned to the 29th Division. Reorganized in 1931, the 54th was active in WWII at Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe, until it was deactivated on January 17th 1946. The 54th Reorganized in 1959 and remains active till today.
